New Junior boarding house to open at Westonbirt School
19 June 2023
The School is delighted to announce that it will soon be starting development work on a new junior boarding house, which is planned to open by Easter 2024.
Westonbirt will be converting an existing Annexe, which is located next to the Sports Centre. The house is likely to be called Sedgwick, which was the name of a former boarding house previously located in the building which currently houses the Prep School. Sedgwick will have space for 24 boarders across Years 6, 7 and 8, with one floor designated for girls and one for boys, with communal space and accommodation for a Houseparent and Assistant Houseparent. Boarding rooms will include desks and use bright soft furnishings and high quality contemporary furniture. Design concepts follow the recent refurbishment of Holford House, our offsite Year 13 boarding house which opened in September 2022.
The facility is designed to help with an increasing number of boarders at the lower end of the School and act as an entry point into boarding for Years 6, 7 and 8. This is the first time that the School will have offered boarding to children in Year 6; an exciting development for our younger pupils who will be able to gain greater independence ahead of the move to senior school, immerse themselves in activities and enjoy the warmth and inclusivity of the boarding community. Boarding will be available as a flexi option for current pupils as well as open to those who would like to start full boarding.
Work will start on the new house later this Summer and parents will be able to start booking from the Autumn onwards. Watch this space for updates on the building and refurbishment work.
