There are daily letters and sounds (phonics), and number lessons across the Nursery. In the Upper Nursery, children attend specialist lessons such as swimming, Forest School, Tappy Toes and ballet (optional).
Across the Nursery classes, activities are based around a termly topic (eg Space, Super Heroes) and are designed to deliver a broad ranging curriculum based on requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework. Our core programme is supplemented by a whole range of exciting and dynamic extra-curricular activities that are led by specialist teachers including music, physical education, swimming and dance.
In 2019, the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) rated Westonbirt as “excellent for academic achievement and pastoral care.” Inspectors noted that “in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), all children make very good progress in relation to their age and development. Pupils from the EYFS onwards have strong numeracy skills and enjoy their mathematics lessons.”
Nursery children play an active and valued role in many of the wider school events such as the swimming gala, sports day, the Harvest Festival and the Nativity play, exposing them to the enriching and rewarding experiences of Westonbirt from the start.
We thrive on developing a lifelong love for learning by designing play-based lessons, and our fantastic setting in 210 acres of beautiful parkland grounds provide an inspirational and safe outdoor environment that is available all year round.
