At Westonbirt Nursery, we offer a rich and diverse learning experience, including specialist-led activities, such as Swimming. Music, French, Games and Forest School to enrich our core curriculum and broaden children’s horizons.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), play lies at the heart of our approach. We believe that through play, children develop essential life skills such as creativity, problem-solving, and social-emotional intelligence. Our experienced teachers carefully observe each child’s unique learning style and provide personalised support and challenging experiences to help them thrive.
At Westonbirt Nursery we follow the statutory guidance from the EYFS framework. This is supported by the non-statutory Development Matters. Nursery staff carefully observe each child, getting to know their interests, strengths and areas of development. Staff create a bespoke curriculum for each child, supporting them to develop across all seven areas of learning and development. Throughout their time at Nursery, children will be introduced to a range of festivals, events and new experiences.
In 2019, the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) rated Westonbirt as “excellent for academic achievement and pastoral care.” Inspectors noted that “in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), all children make very good progress in relation to their age and development. Pupils from the EYFS onwards have strong numeracy skills and enjoy their mathematics lessons.”
Nursery children play an active and valued role in many of the wider school events such as the swimming gala, sports day, the Harvest Festival and the Nativity play, exposing them to the enriching and rewarding experiences of Westonbirt from the start.
Children in our Pre-School class, Peacocks, are offered numerous daily specialist lessons taught by specialist teachers from the Prep School. We are able to offer specialist teaching to nursery children in Swimming, Music, French, Games and Forest School. Attending these sessions is optional and is an additional cost. All children in our younger classes, Little Owls, Wrens and Robbins, participate in Forest School.
Contact our Admissions Team to book a visit or taster session, or join us for our next Open Morning. This is an excellent opportunity to talk to the dedicated nursery staff about our ethos and educational provision and discuss how our flexible morning and afternoon sessions can best meet your needs.
