2nd October 2025
Westonbirt School is delighted to announce that Pete Wilson, Head of Lacrosse, has been appointed as assistant coach for the England Box Lacrosse Men’s Team ahead of the 2026 European Lacrosse Box Championship in Prague, Czechia.
Pete joins an elite five-person coaching team led by Head Coach Walt Christianson, who previously guided England to their first major silverware at the 2022 European Championships in Hanover, Germany. The team will be defending their European title and building on their impressive fourth-place finish at the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships.
Reflecting on his appointment, Pete said:
“I feel incredibly honoured to be appointed as assistant coach for England at the Men’s European Box Lacrosse Championships in 2026. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the sport at the highest level, and I’m proud to be part of such a talented coaching team. I hope that my involvement shows our students that dedication, resilience, and passion can open doors to amazing opportunities – whether in sport, academics, or any other area they choose to pursue.”
Pete brings 10 years of coaching experience to the England setup. At Bristol University, he excelled as both player and leader, captaining and coaching the men’s first team while representing England Universities at the British National Championships, where he was named captain in 2013. His playing career flourished with the South of England representative squad, the England Development Squad, the London Knights, and the Bristol Bombers, where he became top scorer for four consecutive SEMLA Premiership seasons. At Westonbirt, he has been instrumental in developing the lacrosse programme and guiding Westonbirt to the final four of the U19A National Schools Championship in 2025 and a recent win at the Welsh Rally for the U15s.
Director of Sport at Westonbirt School, Nic Sestaret commented:
“We are delighted to announce that Pete has been appointed as the assistant coach for the Euro Box Lacrosse Championships. This is fantastic news for Mr Wilson, and a very proud moment for him. His valuable knowledge and passion for the game will undoubtedly support the England team. We wish him the very best of luck as he takes on this exciting role.”
This appointment reflects Westonbirt School’s continued commitment to excellence in sport and the exceptional calibre of coaching staff who inspire and develop our students both on and off the field.
We wish the England team every success as they prepare to defend their European title in Prague.
