Westonbirt School’s Annual ‘Earth and Space Days’ Inspire Young Minds
Earlier this month the School ran its two annual ‘Earth and Space Days.’
We welcomed 180 Year 5 pupils from our own Prep School, and seven other local primary and prep schools to participate.
The pupils were treated to an array of space and science-themed activities throughout the events. With Explorer Dome, they travelled to outer space, learning all about the sun, planets and dwarf planets in our solar system, and what happens to stars at the end of their lives. They then went star-spotting to discover the constellations and the stories behind them through the gods and heroes, myths and monsters from Ancient Greece. Next, they learnt to make their own rockets with Bath Astronomers, and launched them outside to see which structure would travel the furthest. They also conducted exciting experiments in our Senior School labs, determining crater sizes, and creating clouds with dry ice, as well as finding out more about careers in space and science.
The event was a fantastic, interactive way to inspire and engage pupils in STEM-themed activities and left many feeling inspired.
