Westonbirt Sixth Former and Boarder Adelina joined the Marketing department for a week to undertake some work experience. She shared her thoughts on the school for this article.
Adeline writes:
“I am a German Year 12 student and joined Westonbirt for the last term because my parents were looking to send me abroad for a term to improve my English.
I was really excited and also a bit nervous when I arrived, as it was something I had never done before. However, my worries soon disappeared as I was quickly included in the groups, activities and trips and got to know everyone.
If you think of boarding, you may think it’s either quite boring or you have to socialise the whole time. For me it was the perfect balance at Westonbirt as you have your own room (in Year 12) so you can focus on your studies but also a lot of events and trips are organised which are really fun to take part in.
Westonbirt also has excellent study areas such as study-pods and a library which you can use to study with your friends or alone.
The teachers here at Westonbirt are all very friendly and the lessons are sometimes even fun (which I never thought could be the case). They were all super helpful and considerate knowing, that I joined the school late.
I didn’t take the exams at the end of the year because I am now going back to Germany to finish school there. So, before the exams, the question arose what I would do while my friends and the others took their exams. My tutor spoke to the marketing team and asked them if I could join them for a week and get some work experience there. That’s what I did, and I really enjoyed it and learned new things.
The school also offers a lot of sports and activities that you should definitely sign up for, even if it’s something you have never done before. The coaches are also super nice and encourage you to leave your comfort zone. I personally started Tennis, which I really enjoyed and will now continue in Germany.
So, for everyone who wants to come to Westonbirt, even if it’s not for a full year, please don’t be afraid to do so. Westonbirt is a really open school which cares about its students and how they spend their time or can experience something new that might help them later on!”
With thanks to Adelina who was a model ‘employee’ during her time with the Marketing team.
