Westonbirt Takes Centre Stage in Netflix’s The Seven Dials
Our students and staff have had the unique experience of watching their school transform into the glamorous world of 1920s aristocracy, as Westonbirt became a principal filming location as ‘Wyvern Abbey’ for Netflix’s adaptation of Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials, released on Netflix last week.
For eight weeks during the summer of 2024, our much-loved school was brought to life as the heart of Christie’s mystery thriller. The very spaces where our students learn and collaborate were carefully transformed into elegant period settings, offering a fascinating glimpse into how our school’s architectural heritage can tell a myriad of different stories.
Production designers chose Westonbirt for its authentic Victorian and Edwardian features: the sweeping staircases of the main house, the beautifully preserved rooms where lessons take place, and the distinctive character of a building that has been central to our school community for generations.
Our Great Hall, where school events bring the community together, became a dramatic arrival point for the series. The Library, usually a quiet study space, hosted a tense interrogation scene, while the Reading Room was transformed for an elaborate dinner sequence.
Students returning in September were treated to stories of how other well-known school areas featured on screen: Mrs Holford’s Bedroom, the Ante Library, the Head’s Drawing Room, the driveway they walk along each day, and even the Italian Gardens where many enjoy time outdoors.
Following the recent release, there’s a real sense of pride across our school community. It’s not just about seeing Westonbirt on screen, but the reminder that our students learn and grow in a place of genuine historic and cultural significance.
For our current students, it’s a story they’ll share for years to come: the summer their school became a Netflix set.
