Welcome to our weekly update, where we celebrate the breadth of school life at Westonbirt. Each edition offers a snapshot of the learning, achievements and wider opportunities that define our community. We hope you enjoy reading this week’s highlights.
This week, Westonbirt Performing Arts hosted Stage & Stories Evening – an immersive celebration of performance set across our state rooms, studio and orangery. Pupils delivered a wonderful programme of monologues, speeches and dramatic extracts, showcasing both confidence and creativity. Highlights included an extract from Lord of the Flies, directed by A Level Drama pupil Max W, alongside sung musical theatre pieces and scenes from Rope, Top Girls, One Man, Two Guvnors and more.
Miss Smith, Subject Lead for Dance, commented:
“We are incredibly proud of this talented and dedicated group of students, whose enthusiasm for theatre shines through everything they do. Everyone involved worked exceptionally hard to bring this new vision to life at Westonbirt School, and it was a pleasure to hear such positive feedback from the audience. Thank you to all who came to support the event, and a huge congratulations to the students involved.”
Congratulations to Colin, who represented Westonbirt at the ISA Dance Competition 2026 with his dynamic pop hit routine. Performing against an exceptionally strong field, Colin received a Highly Commended award and secured a place in the top nine of the senior category. With over 120 entrants competing overall and only a small number progressing to the finals, this is a fantastic achievement. We are incredibly proud of his commitment, stage presence and the energy he brought to his performance.
On Tuesday, we were delighted to host the ISA South West Cross Country event, welcoming 18 schools competing for the opportunity to represent the region at the national finals later this February. We are incredibly proud of our Westonbirt teams, who competed across nine year groups and secured 1st place team awards in seven of them. An outstanding achievement!
Individually, our runners also excelled, achieving 1st or 2nd place finishes in six categories. It was a fantastic day of competition, and we are so grateful to everyone who helped make it such a success despite the rainfall. A huge thank you to our Sports Departments across both the Senior and Prep Schools for organising and delivering such a superb event
La Chandeleur festivities lit up our French class this week! Students dove into this beloved French tradition with enthusiasm, learning about the history and cultural significance of La Chandeleur – celebrated each year on February 2nd and often known as “Crêpe Day.” We discovered how the holiday dates back to ancient times, symbolizing the coming of spring and bringing good luck for the year ahead.
Of course, the highlight of the afternoon was making (and tasting!) delicious crêpes. As we practiced our French vocabulary for ingredients and cooking techniques, students gained hands-on experience that made the language come alive. From carefully flipping crêpes to choosing sweet toppings, there were smiles all around. It was a wonderful blend of culture, language, and fun – proving once again that some of the best learning happens when we can taste, see, and celebrate traditions together!
