As the trees of Westonbirt Estate reach their maturity, and the vision for the school is firmly established for a continued educational and heritage partnership between Wishford and the Holfords of Westonbirt Trust; we proudly present our Heritage Tree Planting Project.
For years the landscape of Westonbirt has been synonymous with some of the most significant and distinguished trees in the area. As many of these tress begin to reach their maturity, this project has been undertaken to ensure that the vision, in this beautiful part of the Cotswolds, continues to promote the glory of our environment.
With a magnificent array of specimen trees, alongside those which gloriously represent the English countryside; Holford planted one of the most inspired collections through his years at Westonbirt. These expanded into what is now, well known and respected, as a National Arboretum and the school remains proud of its heritage in the source of such arborial beauty.
This year has seen the inception of a new project to restore some of the school landscape to its former glory, as the development plan for the site takes shape. With our tree planting taking in all corners of the campus, we hope to plant up to 400 trees of varying, but well considered type, to ensure that there is every reason to create a new ‘Trees of Westonbirt’ book.
The trees chosen for the various areas of the school have been carefully selected by our landscape architects, Greenhalgh Landscape Architecture and endorsed, as the right choices for our changing climate, by the Arboretum. Each tree will be identified, and we hope, sponsored by our friends and families of Westonbirt. Each tree will be marked, and protected as shown and the maintenance of them will be included in the costs of the donation.
