Celebration at Westonbirt following completion of construction of new Prep School buildings
13th April 2026
In the most exciting development at Westonbirt Prep for as long as we can remember, Head Rebecca Mitchell has been handed the keys to our stunning and transformational new school buildings!
It is hard to overstate what a difference this is going to make to the experience of the pupils living and learning at Westonbirt Prep. Light and airy, with the most inspiring views over Westonbirt’s gorgeous grounds, every classroom has been carefully designed to elevate the learning of our pupils and create an environment where they will really thrive.
With these spectacular buildings now ours, the Easter holidays are seeing them transformed from empty shells full of potential to fully furnished and finished learning and communal spaces, ready for the start of the Summer Term on Tuesday 21st April.
A ribbon cutting ceremony was held at the end of Spring Term to mark the completion of the build, and the official handover today from builders RJ Leighfield & Sons marks the culmination of a 15-month construction project and represents a significant milestone in the school’s commitment to providing an exceptional educational environment for its pupils.
Rebecca Mitchell, Westonbirt Prep School Headmistress, said: “The completion of these fantastic new buildings is a hugely exciting milestone for Westonbirt and represents a significant investment in the future of our children’s education. These modern, spacious classrooms and facilities will provide an inspiring environment for learning and growth.
“We are delighted to receive the keys and cannot wait until the first day of the Summer Term when our children will move into these truly inspirational settings.”
The new buildings feature six modern, light and spacious classrooms specifically designed for pre-prep year groups, a new school hall and kitchen, new play equipment and a welcoming new entrance, all designed to enhance the learning experience and foster a sense of community around a central courtyard space, surrounded by Grade 1 parkland and historic trees.
Planned by renowned architects Quattro Design, biophilic design principles have been used throughout the buildings to connect children to the beautiful natural landscape around them; creating a unique learning environment that enhances wellbeing and improves learning outcomes.
The completion of these new buildings is the latest in a series of exciting developments across the prep school. Last year, an extensive refurbishment of Westonbirt Nursery was completed, creating a modern and immersive learning environment for the school’s youngest pupils.
In the coming weeks, work will begin on the reconfiguration of the ground floor of the existing Querns building, converting the current prep school hall and kitchen into two new classrooms.
