Westonbirt School scoops Co-Educational Independent School of the Year award and gains a five star review
In September 2019 Westonbirt Senior School accepted its very first boys into Year 7, with boys also able to join Year 12 the year after. Four short – but intensely busy – years later, we are absolutely thrilled and very proud to announce that the School has won the Co-educational Independent School of the Year award, at the 2023 Independent Schools of the Year awards ceremony. More than 200 guests from 90 independent schools across the UK attended the event, which was run by Independent School Parent magazine and held at the Law Society in Chancery Lane, London on Tuesday October 10th.
The award recognises the huge journey that the School has undertaken in going co-ed, the vision and investment provided by Wishford Education and our backers to adapt and develop our School’s estate and facilities, the hard work and commitment from staff and the support from pupils and parents.
The major challenge over the last four years has been to manage the pace of change and growth effectively, despite the pandemic, and being situated in a Grade 1 listed building requiring adaptations to deliver education for boys. This year we have seen the fruits of that change and investment. including our new classrooms, a new astroturf, and Sports Hub. Across Years 7-11, boys now make up approximately 46% of our student numbers; we are truly a co-educational School, offering a fantastic experience and opportunities to both girls and boys.
We are very grateful to Independent School Parent for this allocade; we were up against some outstanding competition within this category, so it’s a great achievement to have won. Congratulations to all other finalists and winners, who all do such sterling work within the sector.
Westonbirt School was also named in the very first edition of the World’s Leading Boarding Schools 2023 Special Report by the US multinational business magazine Fortune, and Statista, a globally renowned market research firm.
This report is based on global surveys launched by Statista conducted with parents, alumni, boarding school advisors, heads of schools and heads of admissions and recognises the most highly recommended boarding schools around the world.
The leading boarding schools featured on this list have been assigned a five-star or four-star classification and Westonbirt received a five-star classification.
