Our Sixth Form Scholarship Assessment Day was a success
Our Sixth Form Scholarship assessment day took place last week, with students undergoing assessments and interviews as part of the application process. Simon Balderson, Deputy Head Academic, said “we were delighted to have such a strong field of applicants from a wide range of schools, giving us the tricky challenge of choosing successful candidates”.
Westonbirt offers a range of scholarships, including Academic, Music, Drama and Sport, as well as specific awards which recognise all-round ability and the potential to make a significant contribution to the school community.
There are huge benefits for scholars, in terms of the programme they follow during their time at school. We expect them to demonstrate leadership in their area of expertise and to study well beyond the bounds of the standard curriculum. Each area has its own specialist programme: Art scholars, for example, meet weekly to extend their skills and enter numerous external competitions throughout the year; Sports scholars have access to a unique Strength & Conditioning programme, as well as personal mentoring and monitoring; Music and Drama scholars receive one-to-one lessons in their chosen area and have numerous opportunities to perform throughout the year; Academic scholars have a programme of personal mentoring, as well as trips, competitions and a whole variety of opportunities to challenge and extend themselves.
We use scholarships to celebrate and encourage excellence, as well as celebrating ‘scholarship’ in its broadest sense. Scholars make an outstanding contribution to our community, as positive role models to those around them and leaders in their field.
