Our brand-new Sports Campus is underway!
Diggers have been busy on site, and we are excited watching all of the progress. This new sports campus development is part of our innovative ten-year architectural masterplan which will include an FIH certified AstroTurf, tennis and netball courts, new changing facilities and PE classrooms for our growing and thriving school community.
Westonbirt enjoys an enviable reputation for producing highly successful individual and team performances in a wide variety of sports, including rugby, lacrosse, netball, swimming, tennis, athletics and cricket, alongside an impressive equestrian team. The school’s 210 acres of parkland grounds provide the perfect platform for sporting excellence with our nine-hole golf course and Leisure Centre, boasting an indoor 25m pool and fully equipped fitness suite. The school’s move to co-education in 2019 has widened the sports provision and the Astro Sports Zone will be a fantastic addition to the ever-growing facilities at our school.
Lizanne Johnson, our Director of Sport, says:
“We are very much looking forward to the opening and cannot wait to use all of the new facilities. It will mean that during the winter months when it is dark, training sessions can be delivered after tea outside. It will allow our hockey matches in both the senior and prep school to be played at home and it will allow sports such as football, netball, tennis and lacrosse to have an additional space that can be used during and after the school day. Having the club house with toilets and changing rooms will help us to operate better as a department. Visiting teams will be able to have a changing room close to the pitches and parents will have a variety of amenities nearby”.
It is planned that the pitch will be ready for the beginning of the hockey season next year and the whole project will be finished by the end of the summer term. We look forward to continuing to watch the progress in the meantime!
