Mr Simon Balderson is our Deputy Head (Academic), overseeing all aspects of the academic side of school life. You can learn more about the academic results achieved at Westonbirt here, and the full academic curriculum here. You can also meet the Head of each academic department and learn about their post 16 choices here.
Mr Balderson also co-ordinates our co-curricular programme, ensuring that every pupil has access to a wide range of creative, sporting and intellectual opportunities outside the classroom.
Mrs Lisa Bradbury is our Deputy Head (Pastoral) and Head of Boarding. Mrs Bradbury overseas our vibrant boarding community, ensuring that Westonbirt’s boarding school ethos weaves through the rich tapestry of life across campus, benefitting day students as much as our boarders. Pastorally, Mrs Bradbury works hard to foster an environment where each pupil is supported and developed as an individual, but on an academic day, you will find her in the art department.
Mr Jack Nichols is Head of Year 7 and Head of Boys’ Sport at Westonbirt. Mr Andrew English is the Head of Drama at Westonbirt School. Performing Arts thrive at Westonbirt, where there are abundant opportunities both within the curriculum and as optional extras. GCSE and A Level Drama are popular choices, while whole school productions offer the chance for all students to access the drama department, either on stage or behind the scenes. For several years, students from Westonbirt have taken school productions to the Edinburgh Festival.
Mrs Atwell is our passionate Director of Music. Music is at the heart of Westonbirt School and over two-thirds of students play musical instruments. The music curriculum at Westonbirt is diverse and inclusive, and students are encouraged to take part in the many extra curricular clubs, choirs and bands on offer within the department.
Mrs Gage is our Head of Art and Product Design. The art department enjoys light-filled studio spaces and a well-equipped product design workshop. Mrs Gage leads a team of talented specialist teachers who draw out the creative best in students across each key stage, often inspiring A level students to gain places at prestigious higher education art institutions.
Mrs Lizanne Johnson is our Director of Sport. As an international lacrosse player and committed sports woman, Mrs Johnson is the energetic leader of our broad and successful sports provision which champions not only an inclusive approach to physical education but supports the elite pathways into sport.
Mrs Bell delivers the prestigious Leiths Certificate in Food and Wine to our Sixth Form students. This is a five term cookery course which has been devised for schools by Leith’s School of Food and Wine in London. We are privileged to be one of a small number of schools in the UK offering this course and were one of the first two schools to pioneer the offering.
After the event, everyone who has registered for Open Morning will receive further information about the admissions process. If you would like to receive this information but did not sign up, please complete our expression of interest form.
If you have not yet visited our campus and are looking for entry in September 2021, we are offering restricted outdoor ‘walk and talk’ tours or individual Zoom meetings with Mr Price. Our Director of Admissions, Patricia Stevenson, would be happy to arrange this at a time to suit you.
