Earth & Space Day
Last week, around 180 Year 5 pupils from ten local prep and primary schools, as well as students from Westonbirt Prep, visited our Senior School for our second annual ‘Earth & Space Day’.
These events are a great way of engaging pupils in fun, STEM-themed, activities. Over the two ‘Earth & Space Days’, pupils travelled to outer space with Explorer Dome; built and launched their own rockets with Bath Astronomers; tried on space suits with UK Space Agency; learnt about careers in space, and conducted exciting experiments in our senior school labs using dry ice.
Mrs Lee, Teaching Assistant at St Mary’s, Tetbury said: “The day provided a different experience to what we have been teaching in the curriculum but complemented it. It built on the children’s understanding of space.”
One student who attended told us: “It was really interesting to find out that stars aren’t just one colour!”
It was a fantastic two days and left many students feeling inspired by all that space has to offer. Thank you to the brilliant space and science professionals who joined us, providing these students with an unforgettable experience.
