Careers convention at Westonbirt School
This week, students in Year 9-13 attended our Future Pathways event in the Great Hall. The Hall was filled with stands from 15 representatives from a range of business organisations; including St James’ Place, Renishaw, McGill Accounting, Oxford Business, First Point USA, Norland College and global studying options.
Throughout the day, the different year groups were invited to meet and chat with the agents to find out more about the different options available to them after Westonbirt School; such as apprenticeships, careers, international universities, and gap year options. Representatives also delivered talks in the Reading Room which gave students the opportunity to learn in more detail about scholarships in the USA, global engineering technology in 3D printing, transport and agriculture, fashion and international hospitality, and chartered accountancy.
The convention allowed our students to hear from business experts working in a range of areas as they start thinking about their future careers, whether it’s university, apprenticeships, or other alternative routes, and start preparing them for life after school. The event is part of the wider careers education, information, advice and guidance programme that Westonbirt offers. This also incorporates activities such as weekly sessions for sixth formers to research and discuss post-18 choices, business networking advice, and employer lectures as well as UCAS sessions for both parents and students.
Business Teacher, Naomi Catley, said: ‘It was a fantastic day with some excellent conversations with businesses about apprenticeship routes and international study. All students engaged in some great conversations about their futures. It was a great chance to explore what businesses had to offer. A great day all round.’
