Today, we were delighted to host one of our partner schools, Fujimigaoka School from Tokyo, Japan. Westonbirt has had a partnership with the school for many years and several cross-cultural visits have taken place.
Students from the school in Japan were excited to be back at Westonbirt again and pupils from both schools took the opportunity to exchange a range of cultural traditions and games whilst also sharing lessons and break times together.
We joined them during the Friday afternoon cultural exchange session in which all students were sharing traditional food, games and past-times. In the mix was a tasting of Japan's wonderful traditional green tea with wagashi sweets prepared by the Fujimigaoka students and enjoyed by staff and pupils alike.
Students from both schools laughed and had fun learning new games, the favourite of which seemed to be the paper-ball game and the kendama game of skill. There was an origami table on which some elaborate paper folding was taking place. Westonbirt students delighted in trying on traditional Yukata, similar to kimono's but less formal and often worn to summer festivals.
Prior to arriving in the UK, the Japanese students practiced presentations to deliver to the Westonbirt community and also perfected their baton twirling and marshal arts skills which were on display today.
We wish all the students a very enjoyable stay in the UK as they set off on their 2-week home-stay here in the Cotswolds.
